Bita gaye dina bhajana bina re. Bala avastha khela gavayo,
Jaba jaubana taba mana dhana re.

Lahe karana mula gavayo, Ajahu na gayi mana ki trishna re.

Kahata Kabira suno bhai sadho, Para utara gaye santa jana re.

This devotional hymn attributed to the saint Kabir reflects on the fleeting nature of human life and the tragedy of wasting it without devotion to God. The poet laments that many days of life have already passed without engaging in bhajana (devotional remembrance of the Divine). Childhood was spent in play and carefree activities, and when youth arrived, the mind became absorbed in worldly wealth, desires, and attachments.

Kabir points out that the very purpose of human birth—the opportunity to realize the Divine—has been neglected. Even after so much time has passed, the deep cravings and restlessness of the mind have not disappeared. The human heart continues to chase desires instead of turning toward spiritual practice.

In the final lines, Kabir lovingly addresses spiritual seekers and saints, urging them to listen carefully. He reminds them that the realized saints have crossed the ocean of worldly existence through devotion and spiritual discipline. The hymn therefore serves as a wake-up call, encouraging listeners to awaken from worldly distraction, engage in sincere devotion, and follow the path shown by the saints in order to attain liberation and inner peace.
