This heartfelt prayer is addressed to Lord Rama, the noble descendant of the Raghu dynasty (Raghuvara). The devotee humbly places his honor and spiritual welfare in the Lord’s hands, declaring complete surrender at His feet. The hymn recalls that Lord Rama is known for rescuing and uplifting the fallen and the helpless, and the devotee pleads for His compassionate response. Acknowledging himself as a sinner from ancient times, the devotee asks the Lord to carry him across the ocean of worldly existence just as a strong ship carries passengers safely to the other shore. The Lord’s divine mission is described as destroying sin, removing suffering, and protecting His devotees. In the final verse, the poet-saint Tulasidas folds his hands and prays for the Lord’s grace, asking for the precious gift of devotion. The hymn expresses humility, surrender, and deep faith in the saving grace and compassion of Lord Rama.
