This famous devotional hymn, composed by the poet Jayadeva, praises Lord Vishnu through the description of his ten principal incarnations (Dashavatara). Each verse glorifies a different divine incarnation through which the Lord descends to protect righteousness, restore cosmic order, and uplift the world.

The hymn begins with the Matsya (fish) incarnation, where the Lord saves the sacred Vedas during the great cosmic flood. It continues with the Kurma (tortoise) incarnation, who supports the earth and the churning of the ocean. In the Varaha (boar) incarnation, the Lord rescues the earth from the depths of the cosmic waters. As Narasimha, the half-man and half-lion form, he destroys the demon Hiranyakashipu and protects the devotee Prahlada.

The hymn then praises the Vamana incarnation, who humbles the demon king Bali with three cosmic steps. In the Parashurama incarnation, the Lord destroys corrupt rulers and restores righteousness. As Rama (Raghupati), he defeats Ravana and establishes the rule of dharma. In the Haladhara (Balarama) form, he bears the plough and embodies strength and divine power.

The Buddha incarnation represents compassion and the rejection of cruelty, teaching kindness toward all living beings. Finally, the hymn foretells the future incarnation of Kalki, who will appear at the end of the age to destroy evil and restore righteousness.

The concluding verse honors the poet Jayadeva and invites devotees to listen to this sacred hymn, which contains the essence of spiritual wisdom. By remembering the ten incarnations of the Lord, devotees celebrate the continuous divine intervention that protects the world and guides humanity toward righteousness, devotion, and liberation.
